Car Guys Disagreement
Donnie Strompf
Viral case from X, rule on it: "Car guys, who is right here??" Mike: "Been turning wrenches for 12 years, and I change my oil every 3,000 miles. Every vehicle I own. Every vehicle I service. Synthetic included. Oil gets contaminated with fuel, moisture, and combustion byproducts. Paying extra for synthetic doesn't magically keep it clean. Especially when your 'normal driving' is short trips, traffic, and idling in the drive-thru. I don't care if your dashboard says you have 40% oil life left. That computer hasn't pulled your dipstick. People will spend $50,000 on a vehicle and then argue about an extra $80 oil change. Follow that 10,000-mile interval if you want. Just remember who gets paid when it starts burning oil." Brian: "You're wrong. Synthetic oil is good for 10,000 miles regardless of how you drive."
The ruling
Verdict: Mike is correct. Regular oil changes at 3,000 miles may be excessive for synthetic oil, but he provides valid concerns about oil contamination and vehicle maintenance.
Ruling: While synthetic oil can last longer, driving conditions and vehicle usage need to be taken into account, supporting Mike's cautious approach.
Sentence: Brian must treat Mike to a coffee to show appreciation for his oil wisdom.
