Group chat with AI: ChatGPT vs. Poe vs. SharedChat

Fewer products do this than you would think. ChatGPT piloted group chats in 2025 and retired them in July 2026, so a shared ChatGPT is read-only now. Poe still runs them. SharedChat is built around them. Here is what each one is, so you can pick without reading a marketing page (including ours).

ChatGPT (group chats retired)

OpenAI piloted group chats in late 2025, then retired them starting July 9, 2026. Existing ones are read-only, and you cannot create a new one or join by link. A shared ChatGPT link lets someone read the conversation, not post into it. For one person working solo, ChatGPT is as strong as ever.

Best for: one person at a keyboard. The catch: no longer a live shared thread; the group version was pulled in 2026.

Poe group chats

Poe's version scales bigger, up to 200 people, and its whole point is choice of model: you can bring many different AIs and creator-made bots into one room. It syncs across desktop and mobile.

Best for: comparing several AIs on the same question, or a big community. The catch: it's a general tool with no idea what your conversation is for.

SharedChat

SharedChat is narrower on purpose. Every conversation is a room with a job: Settle It (a judge who must hear both sides before ruling), Relationships and Co-Parenting (coordinators told in writing never to pick a winner), Parenting, Friend Groups, and a plain General room. You don't type the fairness in as a prompt. It's built into the room. Co-Parenting adds a calm-down step for heated messages. The rooms are tested on the hard conversations, where they point to real help instead of "compromise." Everyone in the room gets a push when someone posts, and any room can switch the AI off to talk human-only, then back on.

Best for: the personal stuff (a couple, two households, a friend group) where the point is being fair to everyone in the chat. The catch: smaller, newer, and not trying to be your work assistant.
