Aisle seat or window seat?

Ruled September 2026 · 2 min read · How Settle It works

Window gets the wall, the view and control of the shade. Aisle gets the bathroom, the overhead bin and two inches of freedom. The Judge rules. Below: both sides as they'd actually put it, then the ruling The Judge gives when two people bring this one into a Settle It room.

Both sides

K
Kai

Window. A wall to lean on, a view, and no drink cart in your elbow. Nobody climbs over you. It's the only civilized seat.

Z
Zoe

Aisle. I stand up when I want, I get off first, and I'm not asking two strangers for permission to use the bathroom on a six-hour flight.

The Judge's ruling

Verdict
Depends on the flight, and the court assigns it.

Ruling: Both of you have a case. The court will settle this by flight length. For a short flight or an overnight trip where you plan to sleep, the window wins. You get something to lean against and fewer people asking you to move. For a long daytime flight, the aisle wins. Getting up without asking two strangers to move beats staring at clouds after the novelty wears off. The window seat also gets sole custody of the shade, which the aisle has historically resented.

Sentence: Short and overnight flights: Kai gets the window. Long daytime flights: Zoe gets the aisle. The middle seat goes to whoever booked last. This ruling is binding on all future trips and may be read aloud at the gate.
